🚀 Axie News #010
Update with 800 MMR change delayed! Nerf hammer is just around the corner. Wen season 19?
Hello, fellow Lunacian,
Oh wow, we are at issue 10 already. Time flies when you have fun, right? When it comes to time, it’s already late Saturday evening here right now. Technically a day late with the release of this newsletter. We were kind of hoping to get some more information regarding that notorious update, but still nothing. It was an intense week in Lunacia, so let’s dive right into it! Shall we?
🕹 Axie Infinity Updates
This week was still HOT with conversations regarding the 800 MMR update. In the last issue, Sewon gave his opinion on the matter, so we will not go over it again. It’s sufficient to say he is not the only one in the community that feels negative about the update. We have seen Brycent speaking up against the update as well. While the tensions are now low, it still feels like this patch kind of divided the community. Luckily all the biggest influencers and creators such as Brycent himself and DAVEvsAXIE have found a way to peacefully talk about it acknowledging everyone’s opinions. As far as I am concerned the whole conversation left me with divided thoughts. I will just say, whatever comes at us for whatever side we, the players, will adapt to it and conquer it. Find a way to go forward.
Luckily or not, it seems Sky Mavis had some trouble with deploying the update. Servers went down and the game was broken for some time (almost 48 hours). Again it felt the same way as in August / September when we experienced server crashes due to unprecedented growth. Finally, they decided to postpone it and asked everyone to roll back to the old version of the game.
What is interesting is that some players who managed to play for a brief period of time, while the update was life, report insanely weird crits and what not. It may be an update problem, but some speculate there were some unintended updates released - most likely balance patch before the Season 19. Is that true? We will never know! - Mr.Kepolas
💰 State of the Economy
There haven’t been any big changes during this week. The SLP price is declining and AXS is somewhat stable. As expected, AXS Staking APR dropped to 128%, which is still high. But as more people stake their AXS, less reward is going to be distributed.
After the latest announcement from Steam (regarding the support of NFT / crypto games) Sky Mavis set a goal to create a decentralized alternative to Steam for games with a user-owned economy. Moreover, we know about the upcoming RoninDEX platform. To have the whole ecosystem operational, developers must employ tokens (cryptocurrencies) to have a distributed governance. So we can expect to see another token (RON) from Sky Mavis. I assume it will be released by the end of this year.

👨🏽🤝👨🏽 Community Spotlight
Oh, boy, who to pick this week. I was searching for some interesting creators with a bit different approach and I can’t believe how I never took a bigger interest in AxieSisters. The core team of 3 girls leading this creator group is two dewsisters. They are popular K-pop idols with a TikTok following of 4M!! It seems they are popular in Korea. That is great for spreading Axie Infinity in the Korean market. The third sister is apparently Jihoz's wife which I find very interesting. Their content is cute, fresh, and of course K-pop style. I have seen them starting to stream on Twitch as well. They are something unique on the Lunacian creator scene, and you should definitely check them out and give them a follow. - Mr.Kepolas
🎨 Lunacian Art Scene
In this week’s newsletter, I decided to highlight my favorite Axie Animations from the already mentioned #ArticLoopContest. I have discovered so many talented creators and choosing only a few were really tough. But we got to keep this newsletter sweet and short.
Cute animation by @anna.
Great work guys! Looking forward to seeing more amazing art from you. - Sewon
⚔ eSports Overview
I must be honest. I am a bit off with the eSports in Lunacia these days. So many things happening in the whole ecosystem that following it all is very time-consuming. But, I did manage to watch another amazing Axie E1337 Open tournament organized by Axie.gg and sponsored by E1337. The finals were spectacular. Why? It was the first time we saw Axie boy wonder Indes lose in the finals. He lost 3:0 against Prathap who is an amazing player from India and also a member of Axie.gg eSports organization. What struck me the most is the fact that the matches were won before they even started. So many strategies and mind games went into the win. It is truly amazing to see how deep can players go in this game. If you missed the action, you can check the recap in this YouTube video. - Mr.Kepolas
❓ Question of the Week
What are the potential nerfs coming this season?
In Axie Infinity, like in any other game, developers look at Meta and what people are using the most. Such things cause the game to be more misbalanced. Since there are no official announcements from the devs, all of what you will read below is pure speculation based on my own view and understanding of the game.
🐰 Cute Bunny. Check the leaderboard and you will discover that every other player is running a triple cute bunny team. This card is ridiculous. The stats are crazy. It gives a decent amount of shield, deals 120 damage, and applies fear for 2 turns! I definitely see it being nerfed.
🐍 Grass snake. Poison is arguably one of the most annoying debuffs in the game. And while having very poor stats (10 damage and 20 shield) the card applies 2 poisons and costs ZERO energy. The way I see it being nerfed is either it should cost 1 energy or apply only 1 poison to target. And in general, poison teams are so polarising, and the only way to defeat them is to have axies with Bidens. So there might be some limitations on how much poison can be stacked.
🐛 Thorny caterpillar is another card that might be nerfed. It gives too much damage bonus.
🌀 Chomp and stun debuff in general. I think there should be changes to how stun debuff works. While making the affected axie miss 1 turn, it also works like a Sleep debuff, allowing the attacker to ignore the shield on the next hit.
Some base stats might be nerfed/buffed for certain classes. However, I do not expect to see drastic changes there.
I am curious to see what the actual changes will be. I hope it will make the competitive aspect of the game more fair and balanced. - Sewon
